NEW YORK STATE AND COUNTY DEPARTMENTS OF HEALTH
Environmental health services are essential services provided by the county health departments.
Environmental health is the assessment, management, control, and prevention of environmental factors that may adversely affect the health, comfort, safety, or well-being of individuals. Many of the services provided by environmental health personnel are directly related to animals (including animal bites, and stray animal and wildlife control) and pests (such as ticks and mosquitoes), as well as the diseases they harbor and spread (for example rabies, Lyme disease, viral encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and intestinal parasites such as Giardia and roundworms).
